Live Review: Volbeat – Auburn, WA – White River Amphitheatre

Volbeat’s 2025 “Greatest of All Tours Worldwide”, supporting their ninth studio album “God of Angels Trust”, released on June 6, 2025.

Lets just say, I knew when I saw this tour come up,  it would be an excellent show. My concert ranking (yes, I’m a nerd with a spreadsheet of concert dates, tours, and rankings) for these guys was squarely in the “EPIC” category. The first time I saw them was back in 2011, at Rock Hard in the Park, a now long lost rock fest in Post Falls, Idaho just outside of Spokane, WA where they had just started performing their now extremely popular singles like “A Warrior’s Call”, and “Heaven Nor  Hell”. I distinctly remember thinking “man, these guys are even BETTER than their albums, live” and 14 years later, they shred and perform as great as ever.

This tour spans from June through November 2025 and includes dates across Canada, the United States, the UK, and Europe. The band kicked things off in Canada with co-headliners Three Days Grace and Wage War, followed by this major U.S. headlining run in July and August with support from Halestorm and The Ghost Inside. Needless to say with a lineup with Halestorm and The Ghost Inside, I couldn’t NOT be there.

What I appreciate the most about the consistent performance these guys offer, is the trueness to the albums, and a very high energy and presence on stage. They’re not the flashiest band I’ve ever seen, but where they lack flash, they consistently have a great sounding audio mix, consistently have unwavering vocal performances, and a very well setup stage with… wait for it…. Some consistent WHITE stage lights! A photographer’s dream! Maybe some people don’t mind bands drowned in solid colors or constant strobes, but its sure helpful for us documenting the show for me! There are some artists that feel like a pretty good time, and then there are shows that punch you in the chest, blast your eyes and leave you hoarse from screaming out lyrics. This was the latter, for sure.

The Ghost Inside is a metalcore band out of Los Angeles, and a great choice to open this tour. What sets them apart isn’t just the heavy breakdowns or aggressive vocals, which ARE notably great and true to their recorded tracks, but they have story and heart. In 2015, they were in a devastating bus crash that nearly ended the band for good. Multiple members were severely injured, and for years it seemed like they might never return. But they did. Stronger, louder, and with more purpose. There’s a certain… weight… to their music that goes beyond the metalcore surface. It’s about survival, resilience, and pushing through when everything tells you to stop.

Their breakdowns are punishing, but there’s melody and message buried in all that chaos. Songs like “Engine 45”, “Avalanche”, or “Aftermath” hit even harder when you know the backstory. All in all, their performance was exceptional, and a good reminder for me to hit a few of their tracks already on my “Liked” playlist on Spotify on my way home to Idaho.

Halestorm has always hit the stage like they had something to prove,  and this was no exception. Lzzy Hale is an absolute beast on vocals. I’m convinced she could peel the paint right off of the walls unamplified. One thing I’ve always appreciated about Halestorm, like Volbeat, is the consistency of the performance. The band is super tight, vocals on point, and even staring directly into the sun that day on stage, relentless power. You can tell that they’ve spent years touring and are seasoned professionals. Arejay, is wild on drums in a good way. He’s full of energy and keeps things fun, even throwing in some crazy tricks during his solo. If you’ve ever seen the “Overqualified drummer plays children’s gig” type videos on Youtube/Reels, thats his level of energy.

What’s cool about Halestorm, and something I appreciate greatly is how they musically mix things up. One song will be a full-blown rock anthem like “I Miss the Misery,” and the next will slow way down with something emotional like “Break In.” There’s a good balance between hard rock and heartfelt moments, and the setlist keeps the crowd into it all the way through. 10/10 will see Halestorm again. For the 5th time.

Unrelated to this particular show but still a very cool demonstration of Lzzy’s power, was in a live collaboration with I Prevail in 2024 in Denver. Lead singer Brian Burkhardt, lead singer of I Prevail, was out sick due to vocal injury and she stepped in to help. It just goes to show her skills and adaptability to genre-bend and be a force on stage. I might be a little biased because I Prevail and Halestorm are two of my absolute top favorite bands.

Well, thats it for this one. If you’re considering catching the tour and you enjoy rock shows…. Its a no brainer. Talent on talent on talent with this set of bands. You can expect to hear Volbeat’s new singles like “By a Monster’s Hand,” “In the Barn of the Goat…,” and “Time Will Heal,” along with classic hits. VIP experiences, including meet-and-greets and backstage access, are available, with U.S. ticket prices ranging widely depending on location and seating, from around $90 to over $500. Despite lineup changes, most notably the departure of guitarist Rob Caggiano, Volbeat’s live shows remain high-energy. This has easily been one of their most anticipated tours to date.
