Concert Review: The Devil Wears Prada is Eternal
Walking into the Knitting Factory on November 23rd, the place was as packed as I’ve ever seen it, somewhere in the realm of 1600-1700 people. The crowd was packed in, and you could tell everyone was ready for a great night. With such an amazing lineup, I knew the show was going to be special.
The Devil Wears Prada: “Ritual”
When I’d initially looked at this tour and saw four openers, I thought to myself “I dont know if I can hang that long” but each of the openers got straight into their sets, had efficient stage, changes, and managed to pack in quite a few songs. From an efficiency standpoint, major props to the bands and house manager/crew. When it was time for The Devil Wears Prada, they absolutely crushed. The moment they hit the stage, the place went crazy. Their set was full of both older tracks and songs from their new album, and the crowd was into every single one. Hearing songs like “Danger: Wildman” and “Dead Throne” took me back, while their newer songs like “Salt” and “Watchtower” kept things fresh and exciting. The band sounded tight, and Mike Hranica’s screams were just as powerful live as they are on the albums.
The mosh pits were wild, and people were crowd surfing non-stop. I even got caught up in it a few times up in the pit with bodies landing on either side and on top of me on a couple of occasions—there was just no standing still at this show. Maybe I should think about increasing my “bodily injury” coverage with my insurance… but I digress. It was awesome!
The lighting and sound were particularly on point, making the whole experience even better. Its amazing what a little bit of white light on a singer will do to help a photographer, and somehow the sound guys managed to pump even more bass out of the house speakers more than I’d ever heard in the Knitting Factory, ever. Super thankful I had my ear plugs… But it was a great time.
The Devil Wears Prada: “Salt”
By the time The Devil Wears Prada finished their set, I was worn out from shooting photos over the whole venue and doing my best to maneuver through sweaty bodies, but it was worth all the songs I was there to hear. Every band brought something different, and it was easily one of the best shows I’ve been to in a long time. The crowd’s energy was amazing, and it was clear that everyone had a blast, except for the security. A night with 5 bands worth of regular crowd surfers had them pretty well over it by the end. Overall, it was an awesome night of live music that I won’t forget anytime soon.
