Chevelle. They aren’t loud ragers. They aren’t big energetic rock personalities. But they are all business, all night, and a big set just wouldn’t fit with their lyrically driven songs with straight forward, purpose-built riffing. The trio, comprised of brothers Pete and Sam Loeffler and touring bassist Kemble Walters, wasted no time launching into their setlist. They’re the kind of guys to have everything ready, and not the type to hype an audience before every song, have a flashy set, and make a big show of audience engagement. The modest lighting and stage effects created a visually interesting but static backdrop that complimented each song. One of their Youtube commenters put it best, “If you need that many gimmicks to keep people interested, that says a lot about the quality of the performance you’re putting on and the music you’re playing”.

From their step onto the stage, they set straight into their newer tracks and wove in the songs we know them for, “The Red”, “Send The Pain Below”, and “Vitamin R”. It was all the music I’d learned to love back in the early 2000’s, and it was very well dialed in.
One of the standout moments of the night was when Chevelle played their hit single “The Red.” The crowd sang along to every word, and the energy in the outdoor amphitheater was palpable. “The Red” stands as a testament to the band’s timeless sound and appeal as a dark and emotional track they’d produced in an era where songs like “Cochise” by Audioslave, “Bother” by Stone Sour, and “Headstrong” by Trapt, were their counterparts in many rock radio stations “Top 10”.

Chevelle’s performance at the Northern Quest Casino was one with an undeniable connection with their longtime fans that made for a high quality, memorable night of rock and roll. If you missed this show, be sure to catch Chevelle in concert the next time they’re nearby. You won’t want to miss it! They have a handful of southern and eastern US dates remaining, concluding in Boston on October 14th.
Find their most recent album NIRATIAS on all platforms, the last of their productions with Epic Records.
