With Two Door Cinema Club’s return to Toronto along with their opening act Flipturn, Coca Cola Coliseum was an energy-filled night of upbeat tracks. With an eager audience and the stunning bright lights of their set, this live act was a love letter to glorious indie rock and roll.

Flipturn as a live act breathes fun into their rock subgenre. Ushering in their last few songs with a statement of “here’s a few songs about being young and stupid,” their soundscape epitomizes all the good of their niche. Proving that the humble genre can successfully be translated from a garage show to an arena while still staying true to the sound and soul of indie. With a firecracker of a bassist laying down the low end, their set was a perfect start to a night of dancing.

As Two Door Cinema Club hit the stage, the crowd was quick to welcome them with an aching itch to dance. The group delivered with an intro that inspired that exact reaction with a blend of their tracks This is the Life and I Can Talk. A perfect pair of songs ushering in the core of the carefree eccentricity of the genre both in lyric and sound. Within seconds both general admission and seats transformed into a sea of dancing bodies. For just a few hours, it was easy to pretend one was simply at an early 2000’s basement show yet with the scale of a disco.
Two Door Cinema Club is a Northern Irish indie rock band formed in 2007. The band consists of three members: Alex Trimble (vocals, rhythm guitar, synths), Sam Halliday (lead guitar, backing vocals), and Kevin Baird (bass guitar, backing vocals). They’re known for their upbeat, danceable sound that blends elements of indie rock, post-punk revival, and electronic music.
Their debut album, Tourist History (2010), brought them widespread acclaim with hits like “Something Good Can Work” and “Undercover Martyn.” The band’s catchy melodies, infectious rhythms, and polished production style quickly earned them a dedicated fanbase.
Since then, Two Door Cinema Club has released several more albums, including Beacon (2012), Gameshow (2016), and False Alarm (2019). Their music often explores themes of love, technology, and the complexities of modern life, all delivered with their signature energetic and vibrant sound.

With a setlist displaying the breadth of their discography, the audience hung onto every note regardless of song popularity with a constant stream of dancing through each track. Wrapping up the show with their hit “What You Know”, the energy of the room skyrocketed with jumps and cheers as the opening chords played through the speakers. The crowd was constantly ravenous for more no matter how much they’ve been given already. Two Door Cinema Club remains a great live act with a mastery of their genre.
