Mother Mother is a rock band from Quadra Island, British Columbia. The killer Canadian 5-piece is made up of Ryan Guldemond on guitar and vocals, Molly Guldemond and Jasmin Parkin on keys and vocals, Ali Siadat on drums and Mike Young on bass. 2025 marks their 20th year together, in which they’ve been consistently making amazing music. Mother Mother at this point seems to be a household name for most Canadians, so it wasn’t surprising that the show in St. Catherine’s on a cold February night was still almost completely sold out!!

The first band to take the stage was the Winnetka Bowling League, and yes, despite their name they do make music!! The indie/ pop band formed in 2018 in Southern California didn’t disappoint as they hit the stage with songs “pulp”, “Come to the Beach” and “On The 5”. They had fantastic energy on stage and really catchy songs.

Next up, we had Cavetown, once again, joining Mother Mother on tour! I had the pleasure of photographing and seeing the Cavetown and Mother Mother double headliner here in Toronto back in July of 2024, which was fantastic. Going into the night knowing how amazing Cavetown is live, I was super excited! Fronted by singer and guitarist Robbie Skinner, they have such an addictive energy to watch. Between the fun sets and lighting, and the overall unique sound they have, I am such a big fan since seeing them again! They even played a Pierce the Veil cover of “I’m Low on Gas and You Need a Jacket”, presumably in anticipation of their upcoming tour with the band.

And finally, the much awaited time had come for Mother Mother to take the stage. Similar to every other time I have had the pleasure of seeing the band, they always have some sort of dark and eerie music setting the stage for them before they come out. They played a killer mix of older songs and newer songs, as well as a Lana Del Rey cover (which was shocking!!). The band also did some songs acoustic that they usually wouldn’t, which I found refreshing after seeing them so many times! Something I do really appreciate about the band is that they never feel over done. There is always something new, always some way they have breathed new life into their music. I really respect that about them as artists and musicians.
Mother Mother is a band I will continue to see time and time again because of their uniqueness and incredible performances. It is so amazing to continue to see them grow and develop after all these years. I would highly encourage everyone to check them out; they are like no other!
