The show, while not super flashy, was very genuine and caused fans to feel like they were brought into life in rural America. Those outside of Folk may not know The Lost Dog Street Band, but they are iconic to many across North Carolina. They packed the venue wall to wall with a variety of people especially many working-class folks who resonated with his music. The crowd regularly “whooped and hollered” along with the music.

The lead singer, Benjamin Tod hailing from Sumner, TN, is well known for his folk-style music that calls on many Appalachian traditions. Accompanied by his wife Ashley Mae, and the rest of their band, The Lost Dog Street Band has been around for several years, with one of their first albums being released in 2011. Prior to the band’s 2023 album release, Benjamin Tod had previously decided to step away from the band to pursue a solo career, but quickly realized that his solo work really should be sung with his band. He reunited the band and they released their newest self-titled album.

The Lost Dog Street Band knows their audience well, as they have lived the experience they write about and seen, and the fans appreciated them for that. The band, known for songs such as “Brighter Shade” and “Hubbardville Store“, delivered amazing harmonies through Neighborhood Theatre’s intimate setting. The band’s interaction with the audience was heartfelt and genuine. The warmth of the venue complimented the soulful sounds of the band, making the experience all the more immersive. This connection was palpable, with the audience hanging onto every word and note, demonstrating the deep bond between the performers and their fans. The show ended with one of the bands hit songs, “September Doves“.
