Listening to Linn Holmes’ debut EP, “Introducing Linn Holmes,” felt like stepping into a time machine that beautifully merges the soulful essence of earlier eras with a contemporary twist. Each track offers a unique glimpse into her artistry, showcasing her versatility and deep appreciation for the musical legends who came before her.
The songs on the EP kind of reflect different experiences and different stages of my life, I’ve been sitting on these songs for quite some time and they’re all about the motives of life – love and loss, but also about resilience and rebirth. In some way I like to think of this collection of songs as a reflection of all those experiences that alongside each other creates the experience of living and going through life. I hope to take my listeners on a journey and I hope my little stories shared in the songs awakens emotions or memories within the listeners soul!

Starting with “Baby Blue,” I was immediately hooked by its lively, upbeat vibe. The vibrant sounds of the piano and the smooth bassline create an infectious energy that is impossible to resist. Holmes’ vocal range shines through, bringing the endearing lyrics about seeking perfect love to life. This track sets a positive tone for the entire EP and left me feeling uplifted and nostalgic.
“Cut Me” took me on a more introspective journey. This emotionally charged track, which was Holmes’ debut single, dives deep into themes of vulnerability and resilience. The bluesy guitar and her poignant vocal delivery are truly moving. As I listened, I could feel the strength and raw emotion she poured into this song. It’s a powerful reminder of the resilience we all possess in the face of adversity. This track is possibly my favorite song from the EP.
“Drifting” offers a stark contrast with its mellow and contemplative vibe. The simplicity of the acoustic arrangement allows Holmes’ soulful voice to take center stage. The lyrics speak to a sense of wandering and searching, something that resonated with me on a personal level. This track added a layer of introspection to the EP, showcasing her ability to connect with listeners on a deeper emotional plane.
Closing the EP with “Checkmate,” Holmes delivers a dynamic and assertive classic rock sound. The driving rhythm and bold guitar riffs convey a sense of determination and strength. Her confident vocal performance ties everything together, leaving a lasting impression. It’s a fitting conclusion to an EP that takes listeners on an emotional and musical journey.
All of these songs are about very specific experiences I’ve encountered in the past years, and they all reflect a specific emotive aspect that has been prevalent in my life. I like to think of them as individual chapters and that they together create an arc of my book!
